a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

Castle Building

With the printer still going, wanted to explore some additional terrain for Test of Honour. I’d picked up some small terrain lanterns from 3DAlienWorlds last year and was looking through their catalog when I came across a set of walls and corner castle options. Putting the two options together creates some pretty interesting large feature terrain options.

New Prints For 2020

Happy New Year! It has taken me a little longer to get going this year but there are some exciting things brewing. First up is a new hobby toy fresh from the holiday, an Anycubic i3 Mega 3D Printer.

Take Me To Church

With trees and rocks and walls and more complete, I moved on to finishing up my target scenario’s bits. This meant a rather easy paint run of the figures needed. I really cheated on this goal as what really interested me out of all the scenario options in a sea of expansions and content was something from the smallest set: the Ars Nova expansion.

Seeing The Forest For The Trees

With my latest Frostgrave minions complete, I turned to another project that will surely dog me for a long time to come: Time of Legends: Joan of Arc. There is an overwhelming amount of content to sift through, sort, and prepare for a game and I’d like to have some of it pimped out. The game is so immersive that painted components really bring it all home.

Skulls And Bones

Hating to let a project linger, I moved back to my HATE terrain to finish it up. I knew I wasn’t going to spend a lot of time on each individual piece so after the wash work I did earlier, I decided to pick out a few highlight details and work those in. Due to the dark nature of the game, I decided to pick out the skull and bone work on each of the terrain pieces. I under-estimated just how many of those details were around.

More Terrain Tests: Joan Of Arc

After a week hiatus with the family, I’m back with a quick comparison of some Joan of Arc terrain. There is a ton of content in that game and since I want to start with the terrain (like most of my projects*), I took a look at the many trees that come in the base set.

*well technically I started off Joan of Arc with my Dragon

Terrain-ing On The Quick

Switching gears from Dropzone for a bit, I went back to HATE. Last I left this project, I had completed a sample painting of an extra miniature. Ready to jump back in and work some more of the game, I started with the terrain. I always like to start with terrain as it is one of the few things that will be used in almost every game.

Finishing Up For Cabin Con

We started our annual Cabin Con yesterday but I ran out of time to post what I was able to finish up for some of our premiere games. First up is painting up my Frostgrave Tavern base for my wizard band.

Frostgrave: The A-MAZE-ing… Oh Never Mind

Ok, some kid game humor with some bad dad joke flavor mixed in. But! I did want to talk about the new maze I made. We have Frostgrave Friday coming up this week and we’ll be journeying once again into the frozen wastes, this time to The Haunted Library…

Board Textures

With the nicer weather this week, I was able to get a little bit more done on my Test of Honour board.  First, I finished up the leveling I was doing for the dojo placement and then I laid everything out to see the progress.
