Gen Con Recap 2019: Day 2

With Day 1 of Gen Con down, my main dealer hall day comes up and I have several games I want to see in action to judge if they are shelf-worthy.

Batman Miniature Game: Big Boy Brawl

As I mentioned last week, we got in a nice game of Batman Miniature Game last weekend. I decided to go back to my roots a little bit and post in the comic format. This isn’t a narrative comic like I’ve done with Walking Dead but I like how it allows the story come out with the pictures more than the text. We’ll see how well it does but as I refine the process a little more, I should be able to post these a little easier.

The Dark Knight Returns

Or rather, some of his rogue gallery… My friend wanted to get a dedicated minis game night going. The goal was to hit something we haven’t had on the table in a while. I must have baited him earlier by talking about the fact that while the “Bat Boxes” Knight Models was putting out were really cool, I have no need to get any. This wasn’t because there was anything wrong with them, rather I have tons of Batman models already needing painting and had no real compulsion to try. As if to challenge this lack of will, he decided he wanted BMG (Batman Miniature Game) to be the game of the evening. I took the bait and busted out my minis to see what kind of army I could field.

Molded Out Of Clay

I had some time this week to jump back into the Batman Miniature Game and complete a new acquisition, Clayface.  This is the new second edition model that is quite a bit better than their original one.  It was also super easy/quick to paint up.

Dipping Into The Animated Series

Batman The Animated Series was a staple cartoon that I watched as a kid and when I first got into Knight Model’s Batman Miniature Game, I was excited to see that they had some Animated Series figures.  Unfortunately, they only had a handful of minis and with the game being heavily skirmish-based, you couldn’t make much of a team out of their offerings.  The minis were great but they needed more of it.

Accidental Find: Toy Terrain

The Gaslands Facebook page is a non-stop flow of treasure hunters looking for the next cool Hotwheels at their local supermarket or thrift store.  While I’m all set to use my half-scaled version from Dropzone Commander, I was curious to see what could be had at my local Walmart.

While not really something to post a “look at me!” thread on Facebook, I did find this little Cars 3 toy interesting for the flaming oil drums.  They looked like they were in scale with my 28-32mm terrain so I took a gamble and picked it.  If nothing else, the car could go to my boy and the obligatory other toys could go to rest of the minions when I got home.

Self-Promotion and Self-Discipline

A quick shout out this Friday that BoardGameGeek’s monthly photography contest is up and looking for your thumbs! I have my Batman image entered so check it out if you like it and want to see it and other great images.

Life has gotten quite busy lately as we are moving so my posts will be a bit briefer as we go through all the packing and hoop-jumping that is involved with relocating, even when it is only a few miles away.

Photo Session: Bat Signal

Russ Spears’ comment on my Laser reminded me that I did grab a cheap Batsignal off Amazon for my Batman Minis Game. It works really well and I decided to mess around with some photo setups.
