a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

Castle Building

With the printer still going, wanted to explore some additional terrain for Test of Honour. I’d picked up some small terrain lanterns from 3DAlienWorlds last year and was looking through their catalog when I came across a set of walls and corner castle options. Putting the two options together creates some pretty interesting large feature terrain options.

New Prints For 2020

Happy New Year! It has taken me a little longer to get going this year but there are some exciting things brewing. First up is a new hobby toy fresh from the holiday, an Anycubic i3 Mega 3D Printer.

Walking Dead Wednesday: Last Of The Tokens

As mentioned earlier, I wasn’t happy seeing more of the original color tokens on the board so I went and remade a few of the last ones and Reese was able to print them up quickly. There are still a few tokens left but they are for specific scenarios so I’ll deal with them as they come.

Skinning A Thief

For a few years now (or actually closer to a decade), my group and I have wondered about a curious deduction game called Master Thieves. This game centers around a wooden jewelry box contraption that the players manipulate to gain resources and win the game. We first encountered the game at BGG Con long ago but never tried it. With a $170 price tag on the secondary market and the game out of print, buying the game outright is a huge risk. Luckily, we have the technology to rebuild him. or her. it?

Back To Felstad

We were able to revisit the wonderful frozen city of Felstad this weekend as we threw down an epic game of Frostgrave. Sadly, I don’t have a report up yet but wanted to take a moment to show off some gratuitous setup shots that show off all the work Colton and Reese have done to bring Frostgrave to our table.

Finishing Up For Cabin Con

We started our annual Cabin Con yesterday but I ran out of time to post what I was able to finish up for some of our premiere games. First up is painting up my Frostgrave Tavern base for my wizard band.

Basic Needs

A while back, I wanted to make an actual base for my Frostgrave crew and found a great cottage/tower model. My friends were able to print it out but found that the components were extremely time consuming (not to mention a lot of material). We decided to scale it back a bit from the original idea and I finally got around to completing the project.

Photo Friday: Books, Check ’em Out

With my Frostgrave maze walls complete, I was still missing a major component to the library, namely, books. It might be disastrous to start this off in meme but here we go!

All Along The Water Tower

With Dropzone Commander, as with most minis games, there are a lot of extra tools players use to help the game go smoothly. This can be things like laser lines to accurately check line of sight or one innocuous little tool that Dropzone players have been using: the stitch counter.  This little device is a great way to track the damage done to large items that have a high damage value like buildings.  With building destruction common in Dropzone and buildings having damage points as high as 40, a concise way to keep track of this was needed and the small footprint of the stitch counter worked perfectly.  You can pick them up at hobby stores or find them in bulk online.

Squaring Those Dropzone Paper Buildings

Almost a year ago, while participating in our local Winter Campaign of Dropzone Commander, the campaign manager came in with some nifty templates.  These templates are made to act like a base for the buildings to keep them square, which is an issue because the buildings usually fold flat for storage and don’t easily spring back into shape. I was able to use them in a game and I loved them but not owning a 3D printer, I could only look on.  I even tried my own hand at it with my CNC machine but it didn’t work out too well.

Thingiverse user Scooper4711 had the files up and with my friend’s 3D printer going strong, he was gracious enough to crank some out for testing.
