a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

Blue Squadron Death Star Simulation

Before I jumped into my Paint Challenge, I was talking about solo X-wing and the experiences I was having. I did have a report in the works and I figured I should get it out before the details turn to mush.

X-wing On My Own

With my new Death Star board finished up, I decided to put it through its paces. The biggest question is “how” in this new age of social distance gaming. Until some tech improves, Solo is my only option (since I’m wanting to play physically and not use one of the online ports).

Luckily, Fantasy Flight has provided just such a solution: enter the Solo Play Open Alpha ruleset.

A New Power In the Universe

Back in January, I played a game of X-wing on a set of poorly made Death Star tiles and thought I should work on fixing them. With the downtime and my scattered hobby focus at the moment, I decided to get this project off my to-do list.

Back Again

With January gone, I thought it was high time I jumped back in. A hard drive meltdown took the wind out of my sails for a bit with the loss of several things I was working on but I’m back now and will soldier on.

I’ve been up to a few things during the downtime and I’ll be showing them off as I get them finalized.

One of the bigger items is jumping back into X-wing.

Too Soon?

Yes. Yes it is.

Gen Con Recap 2019: Day 4

The final day of the Con is always bittersweet as I prepare for my big event: the annual Loopin’ Chewie tournament. While this is one of my favorite experiences, it also means that the convention is coming to a close.

X-wing: Uglies Free-For-All variant

Back in January, I had started on a plan to make an X-wing Uglies variant where players would choose their ships parts and make their ships to fly in a free-for-all, last man standing game.

At this year’s CabinCon, I was able to complete enough of the rough beta to try it out.

CabinCon 2018 Recap Part 2

Day 3 of CabinCon 2018 started with a nice game of Patchwork.  I say nice as this was my first play and it is a game with some interesting mechanics. I got thoroughly trounced by Jeremy but would like to try it again to see if I can figure out more of what makes the game tick.

CabinCon 2018 Prep

Tomorrow starts our annual CabinCon trip filled with games, games, and more games up in the confines of a nice secluded cabin.  It’s a great chance to meet up with old friends and hit games that we usually don’t have time for or pulling out old favorites.

Every year, I try to throw out something unique and memorable and so this year I’m trying out a “Hunger Games” variant for Imperial Assault’s skirmish rules.  I like the theme of a bunch of Bounty Hunters getting thrown together to fight it out Battle Royale style so I picked up all the Bounty Hunters I could find and decided to go the extra mile and try to get them painted before the Con.  We’ll see if I can wrap them up in time.

A New Contender In The Pew-Pew Arena

The news has been making the rounds across the websites but I thought I’d weigh in briefly on Ares Games’ announcement that they are developing a starship battle game set in the Battlestar Galactica universe. The game “scale” looks to be a dogfight scale game with players controlling a number of individual fighter scale ships.
