Pimp My Board Game

a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

Photo Friday: Homage

My last Photo Friday focused on some art shots of Blood Rage miniatures and I hinted that there was both inspiration and purpose behind it. Today, I showcase what that was all about by emulating one of my favorite pieces of board game art, Vincent Dutrait’s Blood Rage poster from Boardgamegeek’s Artist Series #1.

Addicted To Light

I talked earlier about picking up the 3D files for some new Test of Honour lanterns and now I’ve received them and some LEDs from my friend, it’s time to get them working.

Joining The Insta-Game

After some gentle coaxing, I decided to take the plunge and put Pimp My Board Game on Instagram. I likely pretty late to the party but it’ll be nice to have an outlet that is a bit more instantaneous for those times when I’m out and about without a full on post needed. Not that I was worried but @pimpmyboardgame was available so I should be easy to find.

Photo Friday: Blood Rage

A favorite game of mine recently had a revitalizing Kickstarter to enter the digital range. I’m not sure how well a digital port of the game will do but the Blood Rage Digital campaign also offered some physical extras as well. Even though no rewards have been delivered yet, I started thinking about this game again and decided to shoot some new images.

Re-wizarding

Our next game of Frostgrave is coming up and I needed to solidify my warband again and finalize everything for upcoming campaign. I was a bit jealous that everyone had wizard-looking wizards in their upcoming band and even though I really liked my Ranger-wizard, I thought I could do better and get someone looking more the part.

Photo Friday: Win, Place, or Show

February brings to end a few contests that I’ve entered and with it, the results of my labors. Boardgamegeek held it’s annual Picture of the Year contest and the folks in the Dropzone Commander Facebook group were busy with a contest showing off your own custom creations. Before we get to deep into the results, this Friday’s photo took advantage of some of the natural scenery found in my backyard.

On The Table: A Song Of Ice & Nightvaults

While my river slowly takes shape night after night, I was free to get in some gaming. This time, we broke out A Song of Ice & Fire Minis to get in our first game in quite awhile. I’m focusing on Lannisters and was excited to try out some of the Kickstarter figures I hadn’t been able to put to the table due to all the learning games I played at home and at Gen Con.

Pouring Good Resin After Bad

Recently, I started working on the water feature to my Test of Honour board and have been getting mixed results after the first few days. Admittedly, I knew I wasn’t “doing it right” from the get-go but decided to keep going regardless. I’m using Woodland Scenics Realistic Water (which, contrary to my title, isn’t actually resin) and finding that it is an interesting, albeit fickle, product to work with.

Photo Friday: Inspirational Film

This Friday, I took an unused photo from my Test of Honour board image run and over-processed it with some Illustrator work.

90% There

In the saga of another long-term project, I am nearing the end of my Test of Honour small-game board. This 2′ x 2′ board will be used to run micro games of very small groups like my Dojo Assault scenario created last year. I finished up applying my homemade wash earlier and wash able to add some of the near-final details like dry brushing and some permanent plants.
