Pimp My Board Game

a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

Dropzone Commander Olympus: Leviathan Custom

Back at the end of November, I started the planning phase for my custom Leviathan hovercraft for Dropzone Commander. With my last pieces arriving over the weekend, I was able to complete the project and get some photos. This might be a bit a long as I’ll also go over how I created this monster so strap in (or scroll to the bottom to see the final work).

Photo Friday: Boarding Parties

For Photo Friday this week, I pull another classic off the shelf: Broadsides and Boarding Parties.

A Touch Of Frostgrave

After months of planning and painting, my group started up our first venture into Frostgrave. It was a compromise on many levels but the group is nothing if not good sports and we set our date and stuck to it last weekend. Six of us ultimately ended up in the campaign and this presented a slight challenge as there were quite a few that were brand new to Frostgrave and even brand new to tabletop minis in general. To ease everyone in, I concocted a simple intro scenario to bring us all together and get everyone on the same footing.

Finishing The Warband

With our first game of Frostgrave hitting over the weekend, I spent last week finalizing the warband I had left. I only had to get through my Apprentice and Wizard. The Apprentice was pretty easy and I was pleased to see that his custom wand worked out.

Photo Friday And A Magic Quest

Each year I try to add something new to the blog (for as long as I can keep it going).  This year I want to do a little bit more photography and so I’m going to start up “Photo Friday.”  This will feature one new photo each week to get me back in the swing of things. Last Friday, I inadvertently started it so I’m going to try to keep it going.

2018 Challenge Reflections

With my game challenges over, I’ve been giving some thought to how I consume this hobby, both in what/how I play and what I actually buy.  Running some stats on the challenge I did complete, the 100 unique games, showed some interesting trends that confirm some suspicions I’ve had on where I’m going in this hobby.

Getting Our Paint On

I had this plan to put up this 2018 recap with charts and graphs but that felt a little too much for the first full work week back.  I’ll push that back a little bit so instead, I have some pics from another group painting session.  Like last time, my friend Reese hosted and three of us hung out, slapped paint down, and ate some good food.

Photo Session: Race Day

Pulling out some games from the dusty shelf, I decided if they aren’t getting played, they at least can be photographed.  Up first is the 1967 3M game, Regatta.

And then the newer Chariot Race from Eagle-Gryphon Games.

Victory And Happy New Year!

It was a long fight and it had some assistance from my kids this morning, and my wife later in the day, but I pulled through and completed 100 unique game plays over the year.

Winter House Con And The Final Countdown

As 2018 quickly draws to a close, my game group decided to get a last game day in.  We started at about 8:30 am at Reese’s and went all day, with the last of us leaving shortly before midnight.  It was great, it was epic, and as always, a fun time with friends.  I don’t know if we can make this a tradition but it seems like a great way to close out the year.
