a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

Quoth Archaon: “Evermore”

90 consecutive days of painting was the eventual milestone I reached last Friday when I set out to see how long I could keep up a painting streak. I reached a point on Saturday where I had the choice of pushing onward or relaxing into a less regimented approach to my hobby work. The temptation to “chill” was too great and I decided to end the great ride.

CodeOne: Game 4 Farewell

With the new N4 rules dropped on Friday, we tried out one last game of CodeOne before we move back to the full game of Infinity.

Tentfinity: Code One

For this weekend’s Tentfinity, Sean and I tried out the new Code One ruleset from Corvus Belli. We split a box of the Operation Kaldstrom, Beyond Kaldstrom, and Dire Foes set and read through the new rules to put this “simplified” version of the game through its paces.

Tentfinity

With no reasonable end in sight for social distancing, my group has been experimenting with a variety of ways to still game. The hardest has been miniatures games as precise measurements and custom models/terrain are hard to replicate. We decided to try a different tack, starting with “Tentfinity”.

More Terraining

I actually meant to dovetail this with my last post but didn’t have time. The other terrain I was able to complete was for my Old West setting. I showed a few of these during my ongoing paint challenge but was able to take a few more shots to show it all off.

Terraining The Days Away

As my “consecutive days painting” rolls on, I put it to good use by getting through some terrain projects I’ve been brewing for a while. First up is my Warcry (Fauxcry) starter set terrain.

Blue Squadron Death Star Simulation

Before I jumped into my Paint Challenge, I was talking about solo X-wing and the experiences I was having. I did have a report in the works and I figured I should get it out before the details turn to mush.

X-wing On My Own

With my new Death Star board finished up, I decided to put it through its paces. The biggest question is “how” in this new age of social distance gaming. Until some tech improves, Solo is my only option (since I’m wanting to play physically and not use one of the online ports).

Luckily, Fantasy Flight has provided just such a solution: enter the Solo Play Open Alpha ruleset.

A New Power In the Universe

Back in January, I played a game of X-wing on a set of poorly made Death Star tiles and thought I should work on fixing them. With the downtime and my scattered hobby focus at the moment, I decided to get this project off my to-do list.

Completion Is Only Ever Temporary

In April, I celebrated the completion of my Infinity collection. All was assembled. All was painted. Then this “CodeOne” thing was released with my faction and, well, all good things must come to an end so I’m back in the thick of it.
