With Test of Honour Week over, I started up a project I’ve been waiting on for a while now. In a bit of ironic coincidence, we took the weekend to go up to the Georgetown Loop and ride their old steam train. I also just happened to pick up the Dropzone Commander Monorail scenery kit. I usually don’t jump into a project as soon as I pick up the product but the forces seemed in alignment so I pushed forward.
The week is winding down but I have a few final things that were completed just under the wire. The first is one of my first attempts at scatter terrain. I don’t do a lot of this as I usually buy a scenery piece and paint it up. This time I wanted to have some bamboo-based terrain and that isn’t easy to outright buy so I had to make my own.
I received my new replacement bell for my Test of Honour Temple Bell scenery piece and so I quickly set about fixing it up.
It came with a faux bronzing and while that may be just fine in a color setting, it won’t cut it in my monochrome theme.
As I continue through the Test of Honour week, I turn my attention to terrain by building up Sarissa Precision’s Temple Bell. I’ve always liked this model and have had it sitting in shrink for a while now but was glad to have the chance to open it up.
As a side project, I decided I wanted to mess around the “ship in a bottle” concept. It came from the last minute decision not to throw away our empty bottle of Jefferson’s Ocean from Gen Con. This whimsical decision ended up leading me down a path of the act of bottling a ship (not for the faint of heart or shaky of hands) and eventually to a CNC project and some science with the kids.
Having recovered from my fuzzy primer incident, I went back to my Test of Honour Ninja figures to finish them up. I decided to take pictures of the progress as I went along, mainly to see how things were coming out and what was actually effective for my standard table-top quality style. I started first with the ninja hero.
This weekend, we got together for another painting bash to put together more Frostgrave figures. This time I focused on painting up some of the wildlife my warband will include.
My friends have really gotten into the Frostgrave spirit but I thought I should finish up some pending models before I forget. Those models would be my small Test of Honour set. I have had my Ninjas and Samurai ready and primed for a while now and recently thought that I should prime my Ninjas in a dark color to make painting them up go so much quicker. I grabbed the models and got to work.
ugh. What the hell?!
Lots of Walking Dead: All Out War news is coming in from Mantic now. Their blog is dedicating the week to hype up the upcoming fifth Wave of the game and even though I was a little down based on the news I heard from Gen Con, the content for Wave 5 is still sounding strong.
