X-wing: Uglies Free-For-All variant

Back in January, I had started on a plan to make an X-wing Uglies variant where players would choose their ships parts and make their ships to fly in a free-for-all, last man standing game.

At this year’s CabinCon, I was able to complete enough of the rough beta to try it out.

Cold Hearted Orb Rules The Night

I picked up this great little toy the other day and had a little fun with it setting up a few Test of Honour pics.

Walking Dead Wednesday: Here’s Negan

Late last week, Mantic’s stand-alone board game based on The Walking Dead, titled “Here’s Negan,” got an early leak thanks to an impatient web developer at ICv2.  The link was only up for a few hours before they realized the blunder and pulled it down but earlier this week, they released the details again.

Imperial Assault Hunger Games Variant

I’ve talked a little about the prep of my Imperial Assault Hunger Games variant in both concept and execution but I wanted to take a minute to go over the full variant as we played it and how you can duplicate it if you want.

There have been several Hunger Games variants floating around for games like Imperial Assault and they all center around a central basic idea: multiple players deathmatch on a fixed board with each player controlling a single model until the game whittles down to the last figure standing.  To simulate more of the Hunger Game’s theme, a cache of goodies lie at the center of map for players to pick up and use throughout the game.  A lot of these matches like to break the game’s fundamental rules in some way by offering the ability to pick new items/powers/weapons regardless of whether the figure can legally use it.  They also work best with a lot of players in the game to maximize the board and ramp up the chaos factor.

CabinCon 2018 Recap Part 2

Day 3 of CabinCon 2018 started with a nice game of Patchwork.  I say nice as this was my first play and it is a game with some interesting mechanics. I got thoroughly trounced by Jeremy but would like to try it again to see if I can figure out more of what makes the game tick.

CabinCon 2018 Recap Part 1

Our annual gaming retreat happened last weekend and it marks the sixth year we’ve gotten together.  This year we had five in attendance: Jeremy, Sterling, Colton, Reese, and myself.  Reese, Colton, and I got there a little early so we hit a few games until Sterling arrived and then decided to take a break with a walk around the lake.

This walk proved interesting as it was almost dusk and accidentally ran into the dynamic mommy + baby moosen in a fun little encounter. The shot above was taken on the last day of the trip as the two decided to take a stroll down to the lake.  As you can see, they pretty much own the road and when we met them at night during our first trek, we didn’t realize this fact.

Metal Comes to Batman

I’m back from our CabinCon weekend and haven’t quite gotten everything unpacked yet but I did see some awesome news coming out of Knight Models.

Bounty Hunters and Ugly Pieces Of Ship

Sorry, no Walking Dead Wednesday today. I’ve been too focused on the upcoming CabinCon to work on anything else over the week.  The trip is nearly upon us and I’m just barely making it through.  Today, I finished up my bounty hunters and I think they turned out pretty well for blitzing through everything.

I don’t have a lot of time so I’ll just run through the rest of my shots of the bounty hunters from Imperial Assault as well as my Star Wars Uglies conversions.

CabinCon 2018 Prep

Tomorrow starts our annual CabinCon trip filled with games, games, and more games up in the confines of a nice secluded cabin.  It’s a great chance to meet up with old friends and hit games that we usually don’t have time for or pulling out old favorites.

Every year, I try to throw out something unique and memorable and so this year I’m trying out a “Hunger Games” variant for Imperial Assault’s skirmish rules.  I like the theme of a bunch of Bounty Hunters getting thrown together to fight it out Battle Royale style so I picked up all the Bounty Hunters I could find and decided to go the extra mile and try to get them painted before the Con.  We’ll see if I can wrap them up in time.

Warhammer Underworld: Shadespire – A Second Look

I got another chance to hit Warhammer Underworld: Shadespire and it didn’t help- I’m still really into the game. I was hoping a few more plays would dull my interest but I’m still just as excited for the game as I was initially.

There are a lot of things to like in the game that keep me coming back and the miniatures, with their great detail and dynamic sculpts, are a big part.
