So I fixed all the sideways image files. Uploading from my phone tends to do that. The good news is I figured out a workaround for future phone posting. Even better news is that I carved out some time to wrap up my Walking Dead doings at Gen Con.

Day one Gen Con 2018 passed with a blur as I filled my schedule with events. It started off with X-wing 2.0’s preview tournament. This turned out to be more “preview” than “tournament” but was pretty fun even if winning didn’t actually mean anything.
The first unofficial day of Gen Con started Wednesday and usually it is a quiet affair with us picking event badges and tickets and then settling in for some pre-Con gaming. This year, Fantasy Flight decided to mix it up and run their InFlight Report of what is up-and-coming before the Con started. They started off with some lighter announcements of Arkham Horror 3rd edition but then finally got into the meat with a big Star Wars Armada announcement.
We arrived in Indy with much less ado than last time. No redeye flights. Just a quick flight and hop over to the hotel. Gen Con scaled back their advertising this year and didn’t have anything at the airport this time. We did arrive a day before most people but they had adverts at the airport last time. All-in-all, traveling went well with one notable exception:
After some furious painting this afternoon, I finished up my Dropzone Commander army for the big campaign event at Gen Con 2018. I went through to finalize my list and found that I didn’t just need to work up my new commander Tilt Rotor aircraft but also needed to work up another squad of infantry and another set of tanks.
Lucky for me, the infantry I was painting used a pretty simple scheme of just taking the base primer grey, adding black details like the boots, belts, and helmet, then washing it all in pure GW Nuln Oil.
T-minus two days until Gen Con 2018 but we leave tomorrow so I gots some work to do today. Things are going alright as I was able to knock out some pending items yesterday. Namely, I finished up the X-wing Uglies event I’m running.
A friend was in from out of town the other night and I knew he’d like the racing game, Championship Formula Racing, so I put it to the table and got us all set up for some three-way racing. After the obligatory example through the first turn, we reset the track, configured our cars, and started it up.
Bret chose the black Lotus 77 with a slow start speed, high accel/decel and top speed and the worst skill option. Reese went with the blue Tyrrell P34 six-wheel and had lower than average accel/decel, high top speed and a fast start speed. I decided on the orange March 761 with average accel/decel/start speed, higher top speed and wear, and lower skill.
Mantic did a much better job this year running a “Walking Dead Week” and kept up their blog everyday on new Walking Dead content. Nothing new came out to calm my growing fear that Mantic is discontinuing its support for the solo aspects of the game but hopefully I’ll find out more at Gen Con. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much else to add this week after all their information came out but I did break open some Dropzone Commander models and work them up.

I picked up several of the new Famous Commander models and was excited to open up this bad boy and get it assembled.
In a nice lead up to Gen Con, Mantic Games is blogging all about their Walking Dead games this week. It’s still early in the week but we’ve already seen talk about what direction they are heading next, the new Here’s Negan game, and the resin Governor set.

So after our first game of A Song of Ice & Fire Miniatures Game, I’ve had some time to collect my thoughts. As a quick recap, we played a 30 point “small” game using only the starter set. The army lists were netdecked from the Kickstarter updates that featured some initial build lists.
