With all the work now done on the Infinity Guijia Squadron model, I was able to show off the last little addition I made. With this biggest Yu Jing model in the game and TAGs being more of a centerpiece unit, I really wanted to make things stand out so in addition to the custom base topper, I also decided to build a custom base to house an LED and have the base light up.
With Day 1 of Gen Con down, my main dealer hall day comes up and I have several games I want to see in action to judge if they are shelf-worthy.
Like every year, I think I’ll have time during the show to update things but that never happens. The convention is just too busy and entertaining to stop and post so as I settle back into to post-Con life, I get the energy to recapture the magic before too much of the memories fade. Because my photos are in order, it’s easiest to just go through things each day.
Gen Con events went live this weekend and things went pretty smooth on my end. It is usually a frustrating time as their site crumbles under the weight of thousands of gamers furiously refresh their screens trying to get events. Either the events I prefer these days aren’t popular or I got in early in the queue but there wasn’t really anything that sold out for me. Well except for my hosted events.
But I can’t count that as a bad thing.
Since my friend and I are nearing the end of our Operation: Red Veil experience with Infinity, it was time to start looking at where to go next in Infinity. I already knew the first place I wanted to look was the model that single-handedly got me into the game, the Su Jian Immediate Action unit, “kitty” model.
After my color scheme was finalized, I got to work painting up the first few models and made some good progress. It took some time settling on a color to match what I produced on the screen but I got something that was close enough using Army Painter’s Lava Orange with a healthy does of GW’s Agrax Earthshade wash.
With my first intro game of Infinity under my belt, it was time to start painting up some minis but I really struggled to figure out my army colors. I’m playing Yu Jing but yellow just isn’t my color. Nothing wrong with it but it’s not a color I want to paint with all the time or play with. Red is usually my goto but Infinity has a major faction, the Nomads, that studio paint typically red. And my friend already has his Nomads red and I don’t want to confuse things.
Lucky for me, Corvus Belli released concept art of the figures in an easy illustrated style that I can quickly mess with in Photoshop to see what I like.
