I’ve always like red in games. If a player color option is available to choose, red is the one I grab. When first hearing of Infinity and checking out the army options, Nomads were my first choice because their stock scheme was red. I didn’t end up playing Nomads but got my chance to “choose red” when going for my T’au Kill Team.

I don’t play 40k or know much about the lore but I believe most T’au are not usually red as this represents a schism in the factions- a rebellious red group known as the Farsight Enclave. Whatever. They be red to me so they be my team!

The cool thing about the current Kill Team game is I truly only need twenty models. The roster doesn’t really have much flexibility in it so building these twenty (really fourteen figures and six drones) gives me all the options I need when building the actual game lists.

The scheme is quite simple: prime coat in charcoal grey then base coat the armor and weapon details in red. I went for a deep dark red (khorne red) allowing me to edge highlight some details with some easy lighter red and orange. The last bits were the blue-ish skin of the T’au and picking out some finer details like the gold you see on the next figure’s gun and sword scabbard.

Base coating in all that red was a little tedious but it also meant I could batch paint up all these figures quickly in a little assembly line. Knocking out these twenty went quicker than I thought when tackling a narrow task like all the head and chest armor one night, arms and weapons the next, and finally the backpack, knee pads, and remaining pieces last.

The drones got love as well and were even easier. The big saucer top took the majority of the time then it was just accenting whatever specific weapon/tool load out they were included with.

With all the team painted, I finished the figures up with a quick dash of Agrellan Earth technical paint to create an easy cracked-earth effect for the base and the team was complete.

A quick slap-job of painting up the movement templates and shield walls and all of Kill Team was complete- minis, accessories, terrain, and storage.
