a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

2017 6×6 Gaming Challenge Conclusion

Happy New Year! The end of 2017 saw a flurry of gaming as I finished up my year-long 6×6 challenge at the eleventh hour.

Dropzone Commander Winter Campaign, Game 3

After painting up my Marine Force Recon group for Dropzone Commander, I thought I’d be all set for our next Winter Campaign game but at the last minute, I decided to switch gears and go back to playing the Feral side of Resistance and play with the Skulltaker and Berserkers I painted up a while back.

This build (now at 1,600 points) would need another unpainted group of minis, my Occupation Veteran infantry. So here it was again, furiously painting up a set of minis right before a game.

Striking While The Iron Is Hot

I thought I was going to get in another solo game of Championship Formula Racing but after prepping more Dropzone minis, I’ve gotten into a sort of painting rhythm and I might as well keep going while I can.

First up, I finished the last little unit for a potential army list I’ll likely try out at the next DZC meetup this month.

MFin’ MFRs

I ran through some more minis painting this week.  I got the bug so I’m going to strike while the iron is hot.  It was odd though as everything seemed to work really well or be fraught with disaster.  A very “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times” situation.

I started off early this week with a little more work on my Optimus Prime Dropzone model.

Salvage Work

I hope everyone had a great a great Thanksgiving if you were in the US. Hope your post holiday plans go well and good luck if you’re braving the crowds for Black Friday.

Even though my attempt at a base for Dropzone Commander buildings didn’t quite turn out, I saw potential in one of the tests and decided to move forward with it to help fine tune the prototype.

Impromptu Painting

We got lucky this week and had a rare opportunity to get in some mid-week gaming and with the end of the year looming, I pushed to get in another game of Batman in.  From our last game, we weren’t convinced Commissioner Gordon was a good fit for my friend’s Batman crew.  My friend didn’t have time to work up an alternate model so I took advantage of the good weather to work up one of my SWAT henchmen.

Dropzone Commander Winter Campaign, Game 2

This weekend we had our second Dropzone Commander game in our three game campaign cycle.  This time we were up to 1,250 points and were pushed beyond the smaller Skirmish army build options and into the full Clash-sized rules.

We also decided to run a new scenario from the latest book, Reconquest: Phase 2: Battle for the Olympus Shipyards – Hull Breach.  This new scenario used a bucket list of new environmental rules that did everything from increasing movement and the power to all weapon systems to having orbital debris and unstable environment effect randomly occurring.  With that in mind, I built a sort of old-school list:

New Project Woes and a Twist on Last Night on Earth

Having finished up my Pitchcar connector track, I was free to start up my Dropzone Commander building base project.  I had already made the prototype in CAD and then I set the tool pathing so it was ready to try it out.

Dropzone Commander Commandeered

“Commandeered” is not quite the right word as everything seems amicable but in other news from Dropzone Commander world, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention this huge announcement from earlier this week:

Today we have an extremely exciting announcement here at TTCombat. We have completed a deal with Hawk Wargames to purchase both the incredible Dropzone Commander and Dropfleet Commander.

More Revisions: Dropzone Commander Building Bases

For over a year now, I’ve been working on a way to put a rigid base under the cardstock Dropzone Commander buildings.  This would be used to keep them more square instead of bending and give them some weight so they don’t slide around as much.
