a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

The Ruined City: Tunnels And Ramps

Earlier this week I had started on my new Dropzone Commander layout, tentatively titled “The Ruined City.” I’ve now completed my double canal set and started working on other options like ramps to get from the base (table) level to the second level where most of the board will reside.

The Ruined City: Civil Engineering

Even though the latest ruleset for Dropzone Commander leaves a lot to be desired, I can’t help but work on the hobby side of the system. I’ve done some starts and stops on improving my main board but thought that it just wasn’t possible without a lot more work than I’d have time for but with the 3D printer, the world opened up just wide enough to really jump back into the concept.

Heeding The Call

Back a little over six months ago, I was at Gen Con and demoed Warcry from Games Workshop. The game was what I was looking for when I tried out Kill Team. Where Kill Team as a 40k-lite or quick game failed, Warcry really delivered. It took awhile to get in but I finally jumped in and I’m starting to get things rolling.

Castle Building

With the printer still going, wanted to explore some additional terrain for Test of Honour. I’d picked up some small terrain lanterns from 3DAlienWorlds last year and was looking through their catalog when I came across a set of walls and corner castle options. Putting the two options together creates some pretty interesting large feature terrain options.

Back Again

With January gone, I thought it was high time I jumped back in. A hard drive meltdown took the wind out of my sails for a bit with the loss of several things I was working on but I’m back now and will soldier on.

I’ve been up to a few things during the downtime and I’ll be showing them off as I get them finalized.

One of the bigger items is jumping back into X-wing.

Frostgrave: War On Christmas

With the holiday season mere moments away from its major event, we decided to get together and throw a festive-inspired Frostgrave game. Sean had the main idea and so he and I tag-teamed with him picking up a centerpiece for the terrain and I would grab some minis to serve as our treasure-seeking foils. The war on Christmas has begun.

Revving Up For The Big Lights

Sometimes you get distracted and then projects just fall off your work bench. In the case of Gaslands, it was 18 months since I last worked on anything for the game and it seemed with Gaslands Refueled released (the second edition of the game), I would just leave it all behind. But fate decided differently and for whatever reason I dusted off the rules and decided to make it happen.

Sh*t My Rule Book Says

It’s been a couple of months since I last played some disappointing games of Dropzone Commander and I don’t think stewing in frustration will do any one any good so I’ve decided to take another path. No game, no matter how well designed, is flawless. In Simulation games especially, this can lead to some pretty funny interactions.

I’ve decided to illustrate some of these situations in Dropzone Commander through some new photographs. It was a lot of fun creating these scenes and, if nothing else, I hope you enjoy them. Big thanks to Colton for loaning me some of his fantastic UCM, Scourge, and Shaltari models.

Walking Dead Wednesday: Last Of The Tokens

As mentioned earlier, I wasn’t happy seeing more of the original color tokens on the board so I went and remade a few of the last ones and Reese was able to print them up quickly. There are still a few tokens left but they are for specific scenarios so I’ll deal with them as they come.

The Perilously Perilous Dark

Lest it be said I spend all my time tracing white primed minis, friend Colton picked up the new Frostgrave book, Perilous Dark and we decided to test our mettle against a new challenge: working together.
