a pursuit of fruitless endeavors and endless refinements

Interior Design

I’m nearing the end of my plans for my Old West set and the specifics I’m creating for Dracula’s America. I have a few last items I want to wrap up before the end of the month to close the book on this project so that it can pull out and play at a moments notice. One of those items is finishing up the interior of my buildings.

Dropzone Commander v2.2

The end of last week saw a lot of action drop for Dropzone Commander. TTCombat released an updated rule book and revised names/stats for almost every unit. Unfortunately, they bit off a bit more than they could chew as a server migration plus revamp of the website architecture behind their unit builder and the restocking of a bunch of models to their webstore caused some issues. Namely in the unit builder having issues porting in a lot of the updated info on top of layout/UI issues. These issues should clear up soon enough but lets move past that and look at what Dropzone 2.2 is looking like.

O Dropzone, Where Art Thou?

Once the belle of the ball among my gaming group, Dropzone Commander has fallen far from the graces of our table and it wasn’t even the mighty COVID, the Destroyer, that did it in.

That Old Timey Feeling

For a while now I’ve been sitting on a project that really never went anywhere. I’d been wanting to play a western skirmish game and so I set about collecting various things I’d need to eventually set it all up but I never really got past the collection phase. Then, I saw Back to the Future Part III again and started getting the itch to finally start this venture up.

Dropzone Commander: Special Ops

The distraction of my Paint Challenge had slowed down my progress on my Dropzone Commander solo variant but I’m happy to say I’m ready to push on. I’ve put together art for the cards, written the rules and first scenario, put together the rules in their own layout.

The Ruined City: Solo Rules (Alpha)

As discussed at the conclusion of my Phase 2 board building, one of the main goals pushing me forward is creating a sustainable solo experience for Dropzone Commander. With that in mind, I have the Alpha version of my solo rules ready and I’ve ran through a playtest already (report next time). This is just a summary of the rules and concepts at this point since things are pretty untested.

The Ruined City: Crittertown

With the Feral Vampires complete and now roosting in the Ruined City, I move on to the terrestrial denizens from Dropzone Commander. These creatures originally appeared in the Fauna rules in first edition. TTCombat then revised and reintroduced Fauna for 2nd edition. With enough extra rules floating around and Fauna becoming a viable option for regular army building, it was time I finished them up.

The Ruined City: New Highrise

Digging through some unfinished terrain projects I stumbled upon a shrink-wrapped TTCombat building I picked up a while back: the Dicington Tower.

Gen Con Recap 2019: Day 1

Like every year, I think I’ll have time during the show to update things but that never happens. The convention is just too busy and entertaining to stop and post so as I settle back into to post-Con life, I get the energy to recapture the magic before too much of the memories fade. Because my photos are in order, it’s easiest to just go through things each day.

The Battle For Earth Begins

It’s been a long road, but a Second Edition is finally coming to Dropzone Commander. The new ruleset, titled “Battle for Earth,” is an odd compilation of fluff (more on that in a minute), Dropfleet Commander updates and new units, and complete Dropzone Commander 2.0 rules.
