While compiling all the images from my second comic issue, I noticed that the camera picked up the stock dark trees as actually a bit browner than I anticipated.

In person, they really don’t stand out as much as what I was seeing while editing the images but that likely has a lot more to do with your brains interpretation of the color than the actual color.

I decided to correct that issue and paint them all.  I figured it’d be annoying but I found it to be quite easy.

First, I primed all of them in my standard light grey.  I almost left them as is but they just stood out too much as light barked trees and it didn’t mesh with my expectation.

So I grabbed my Nuln Oil wash (GW’s Citadel series) and went to work while catching up on TV shows.  It was exceedingly easy and I didn’t dilute any thing. Just slopped it on and tried to cover as much as possible and catch drips before they dried.  It didn’t always work but even when it didn’t, it blended in well enough to not be bothered by it.

I then sealed them up and now they are ready to go, fitting in much better with my monochromatic Walking Dead set.

In other news, Mantic wrapped up their Walking Dead week with some interesting new product announcements.  First up, they will be offering two accessory kits that feature acrylic rulers, tokens, and Killzone template.  This last items was something I was really hoping for back even in the early days of the Kickstarter so I’m glad they are coming out with one.

Next, they are going to release an equipment card pack that is 55 equipment cards of some useful re-released items as well as some really fun new ones.  This is a really cool concept that I haven’t seen other companies do yet.  I’ve been wanting a company like Fantasy Flight to do this with their X-wing and Armada games since it can be a pretty big drag to buy models you don’t want or would never field just to chase down a critical upgrade card.

The more I dig into Mantic Games’ corporate culture and release mindset, the more I’m amazed at how much they break the industry rules and do well at it.  They are really convincing me that they are developing the gold standard for consumer relations.

Last but not least, Mantic announced they are releasing a large resin diorama that will have characters from the famous Negan confrontation in the comics. All the characters are removable from the diorama and can be used as figures or objectives in the game. Also, they will come with a few new character cards for Rick and Carl. All-in-all, some pretty exciting news on the Walking Dead: All Out War front.
