Walking Dead Wednesday: Tiger, Tiger…

…Burning bright,
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

-William Blake

Rawr! It’s Shiva painting time!

So I came into this one with some apprehension as I wasn’t sure about getting those stripes “right.” As it turns out, I don’t think you really have to.

So I first just painted up the kitty normally without stripes. I took a lot from several of the already painted Shiva’s on Facebook and elsewhere to get the white tufts where I wanted them.

After that, I started with the tail and worked upwards.

I think the key for me is small, thin stripes.  If you’ve got a good stroke technique down, I think you can get away with larger and more spread out stripes but mine seemed to waiver a lot.

Half way up, I thought it was going to turn out like crap but I kept plugging away at it, adding stripes randomly across the body and down into the sides.  At about 3/4ths  through, it started to finally “click” and the tiger striping started looking legit.

After that, it was just doing some small face lines and Shiva was complete.  Now throw that kitteh into The Pit!

Pretty easy layout for Shiva since she can’t take anything.  Just 44 points of awesome.

The lights flicker on. Shiva’s eyes narrow as the smell of blood and rot fills her nostril. Crouched and waiting, she steadies her haunches as the dead slowly take notice of her.  With only the nervous twitch of her tail as a sign, Shiva launches herself at the first abomination…

Shiva doesn’t mess around.  She is death incarnate and these rotbags don’t scare her.

She launches into the first walker.

Which attracts a friend. It must have thrown her off guard as she rolls up lame. But it is a “win” so she’s off to the next walker.

Ugh, so much for “death incarnate.” Apparently the walkers are not happy with that previous boast and their dice are punishing Shiva.

Two attacks in a round and nothing is even on the ground. Even the Sharp claws fail. Bad kitty!

Round ends just eating up precious time for Shiva.

No need to run to this walker so Shiva takes her time and just destroys blondie walker.

With no hesitation, Shiva launches into the next victim. Not a bad set of attacks.  Maybe Shiva will get in gear now.

That walker the left took a delayed Sharp roll so Shiva’s claw must have been sooo sharp it took awhile for her to notice.  They all stay down.

A very mild increase to threat.  The “Distracted” event while “All Quiet” was a nice event card pull.

Shiva tried to finish off the downed walker but the event card sent two walkers her way instead.  And apparently I’m awkwardly color blind as I pull two white dice for Shiva’s melee.  Walkers are not happy and start biting into Shiva, taking advantage of my mistake, infecting her in the process.

To add further insult, Shiva takes another wound from the infection and her downed walker stands back up, in base-to-base contact, wiping out her actions for next round.

All around pretty crappy round for the goddess of death.

Crappy round takes a nose dive as she gets a whole Herd on her.  Luckily only one walker pulls in but that makes four of the bastards.  Poor Shiva, only got to take out one walker before becoming walker chow.

At least she’s not going down without a fight!

HA! Suck it, walkers!  Shiva should likely have been ripped to shreds but escapes with only one wound.

And she makes her infection roll.  This so could have been the end.

She’s still got some time before things get really nasty.

Discretion is the better part of valor here so Shiva stalks off to the corner to lick her wounds.

Unfortunately, she gets no relief but at least it is just one walker this time.

Oh nice! Shiva is coming back and downs her second walker.

She charges in for a follow up attack and tears apart her third walker.  I think she’s dialing it in now.

Unfortunately, the damage takes its toll and she takes another infection wound.

Not wanting to pull more walkers over, she stalks to the side and taunts a walker in the corner.

The taunting works but a group of roamers join the party.  Luckily only one extra walker is in range.  Shiva is just ripping it now and downs her fourth kill and puts another on the ground.

Only one life left and one threat left on the clock, Shiva jumps in on blondie walker one last time and score big again. Shiva was on fire these last few rolls.  Walker number five is history.

Shiva is satisfied and laughs off the infection to stay alive.

Only to be defeated in the end.

This thing all things devours;
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats mountain down.

    Great job on Shiva – I just finished mine about a week ago and nowhere near as impressive, especially compared to yours. Especially on the flow of those stripes.

      Thanks! I just saw your Shiva and I like the depth you got on the orange coloring/shading. I think the stripes can go either way, heavy and dense or light and spaced out as it really only needs to remind the viewer of what we’re seeing. I really liked your horse too. The white leggings really give it some “pop”.
