Walking Dead Wednesday: Carl Grimes, Trainee Sharpshooter

Welcome back, Walking Dead fans! I didn’t get to paint up a new survivor but the show must go on and The Pit is hungry. So without further adieu, I have Carl Grimes, Trainee Sharpshooter taking on The Pit.

It’s Ladies’ night Carl. Hope you can handle it.

For those that missed it last week, The Pit is a solo competition I’m running where I put a 75 point survivor into a 10″ x 10″ mat filled with walkers and see how long they last. I’m using my Hardcore rules so no spamming Hold Your Nerve actions all the time. It’s just the survivor against the clock (threat). Oh and the walkers.

75 points for Carl allows for a lot of equipment options. I try to stick to a somewhat plausible load out so I have his Lucky Hat, a somewhat useless Backpack (since his card has him wearing one), a Lucky Charm (in case the hat isn’t lucky enough) and a nice 9mm complete with totally cheaty Silencer.  I think Carl is ready to take on The Pit and see if he can fare better than Dale, our current and first Pit King.

The lights flicker on, blinding Carl as he gets to his feet. As his eyes adjust, the stark room comes into focus centering on the blood scrawled message in the center of the room: “SURVIVE.” Before he can even think about the cryptic message, Carl sees the walkers.  With no discernible way out, the message becomes crystal clear as the dead start to notice they too are no longer alone…

Carl wastes no time and gets things started by taking a shot at the closest walker. The sharpshooting lessons are paying off as he downs her on his first shot.  It’s not a kill but he’s already doing potentially better than Dale.

The silenced 9mm still makes noise but No-face lady ends up not close enough.

A pretty productive first round.  One walker is taking a nap and the threat didn’t go up too fast.

Carl sneaks around No-face and tries to cap her from behind.  She tries to make it easy but Carl’s nerves have him still aiming for center-mass.

Noise pulls in another class act from behind Carl. Handsy Lady is trying to spoil Carl’s night.

The Hunger event pulls in another walker, Strung-out Junkie lady.  She’s a little slow so doesn’t quite make it to Carl.

With young-man syndrome in full effect, Carl decides to let Handsy take a 9mm slug to the face.  Her head explodes and Carl has killed the first Pit walker.  Even if things go south, Carl will be the new Pit King.

The reliable 9mm doesn’t jam and still has a full clip so Carl defends himself from Strung-out Junkie walker.  Carl was too excited to see that other walker go down that he decided to not pay attention to the fight he was in.  Luckily Strung-out Junkie wasn’t really paying attention either.

By the end of the round, the previous walkers get up and the threat of events and melee push us deep into Low Threat territory.

Carl decides the heat is a little too much so he sneaks over to one of the supply counters and finds an Old Gun. Now backpack has something to do!

The move pays off as most of the walkers are distracted.  Except Strung-out Junkie lady.  She’s really hot for Carl.

Carl blasts her with the 9 mil but failed to get a clean kill.

Cop walker comes in and is able to get in some damage on Carl.  That’s twice Carl has been too distracted to even try to defend.

Three life left but at least it wasn’t a bite.

Threat remains in Low gear and Strung-out decides dirt is better than brains so she stays down.

No-face was getting too close so Carl sneaks over and drops her again.

This brings over The Herd and all the ladies hit the dance floor.  Luckily two of them are too busy drooling on the ground to notice.

Carl is having none of that so headshots Cop walker. Two kills, ah ah ah!

Diner lady comes in from the noise but Carl is ready for her and fights her off easily.

We’re getting up in threat but the walkers stay down and give Carl some room to maneuver.

Positioning himself to the next supply counter, Carl takes a pot shot at Sorority lady but doesn’t have the heart to ruin her pretty little face.

Diner lady isnt’ through with Carl and then it becomes the opposite of “Too Quiet” when the threat tracker jumps up three points.

Carl is dialed in now and wastes Diner lady. Three kills, ah ah ah! No-face is bored with the floor and decides to rejoin the party.  We’re getting into some High threat at this point but with only one walker standing, Carl is looking pretty good.

Carl panics and becomes terrified, losing one action.

Even terrified, he makes excellent use of that one shot and obliterates No-face. Four kills, ah ah ah!

Pandemonium is unleashed but luckily, all the walkers are down.  Four more come into play.  Since The Pit is a sealed room with no exit, the bodies on the floor prove themselves to be just dormant lurkers and rise up.

Now it’s a party!

And the DJ is just layin’ down the sweet beats so Sorority and Strung-out head to the dance floor.  There is one threat left as we start round 7.

Totally freaked out from going from totally owning this place to being completely surrounded, Carl does the only logical thing, he screams (even with the Lucky Charm reroll. Dude just really couldn’t handle it).  The scream draws in every walker and ups the threat counter one last time.  As the lights go out, Carl’s screams only intensify until they are cut short in a sad little gurgle.
